When people ask me what are the things in life that bring you joy? I tell them running is one of them.

Hi, my name is Pieter De Brabander and welcome to Running Ghent. I started Running Ghent with the intention to share my passion for running with others and I hope the spark catches on. What started for me as running 5 km quickly turned into 10 km. This eventually resulted in competing in the famous Antwerp 10 miles (16 km) in 2017. Completely hooked by the idea of constantly pushing my boundaries, the next target was set. Half a marathon or 21 km. In 2018, together with friends I completed my first half marathon with the necessary suffering during the 20 km of Brussels – they say 20 km but I can assure you it was actually 21 km… Of course you can’t stop there, so the next target was only logical, a full marathon or 42 km of running. In 2019, we had the idea of competing in the Paris Marathon and finished it in 3h 59mins, just below our target of 4 hours! But it didn’t stop there… I would like to run one marathon each year, so I subscribed for the marathon in Ghent in March. Unfortunately, the marathon was cancelled due to the consequences of COVID-19. That's when we decided to run our own marathon after the summer. Finishing time: 3h 26mins.

While I was training for these competitions I discovered a lot of beautiful running routes in and around the city of Ghent. This site seems like a great way to share them with everyone interested in getting into running – or just discovering new enjoyable routes around Ghent

Oh, and while I’m running I like to take pictures of every beautiful route that I pass by. I hope you enjoy browsing my site and all of the unique content I have to offer. Take a look around; perhaps you’ll discover what fuels you as well. Read on and enjoy!
